Glenmark Pharmaceuticals has launched the first nebulized, fixed-dose, triple therapy for patients with COPD. The new treatment combines glycopyrronium, formoterol and budesonide into a one-unit dose, making it easier for patients who have difficulty using metered-dose inhalers and dry powder inhalers.
Results of the clinical study, “Effectiveness and Safety of Glycopyrronium-Formoterol-Budesonide Triple Therapy in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (AIR-FORCE): An Open-Label Multicenter Phase 4 Study,” were published in Advances in Respiratory Medicine.
According to a press release, the trial demonstrated rapid improvement in lung function and better control of breathlessness in patients. The treatment was found to be safe and well-tolerated by all subjects involved.
Monika Tandon, MD, DM, global head of clinical development for Glenmark, said the treatment represents a tremendous step forward in managing COPD, with both great clinical performance and patient-friendly usage.
“Nebulizer medications are easy to use in patients with COPD,” she said. “The strong efficacy and safety demonstrated in the clinical study further supports this novel treatment approach.”
